It is no secret that I love to sleep. I can sleep anywhere; in a bed, in a car, on a plane, heck I can even sleep on the floor. If I’m tired I can just close my eyes and fall asleep. Some may call me lucky.
There is one exception to my sleep anywhere/anytime ability and that is pregnancy. Pregnancy is the one thing that sometimes stops me from just being able to easily fall asleep. Whether its movement from the baby or the constant urge to pee, I am left counting sheep over and over and over again.
Some believe this side effect of pregnancy, is your body’s way of “preparing” you for what is to come…the dreaded sleepless nights of the newborn phase. But DAMNIT this is my third baby, I am prepared! I could do this shit with my eye closed (oh closed eyes…sleep, oh how I miss you). Let’s just cross that bridge when we get there. For the love of God just let me get a good night’s sleep.
I mean let’s be real, us moms must be superhuman because the lack of sleep that we function on is insane. Two hours of sleep, sure no problem I can still adequately care for two tiny little humans. We somehow find the stamina to keep on keeping on because really what is the other option?
So if you are anything like me, you find ways to get in the sleep when you can. Lately, I’ve been trying to nap when the kids nap, go to bed earlier or have my husband get up with the kids so I can sleep a little longer. This phase is usually short-lived so whatever guilt I would normally have is nonexistent at this point. Getting in your zzzz’s, no matter the way, is better for everyone. A well rested mama makes for a happier mama.
